Whole Body Vibration Machines ? False Specifications
In 2009, Australian Women's Health & Fitness Magazine wrote a consumer article on Whole Body Vibration and stated…. "Be wary of machines that don't accurately display hertz to their option levels. If you have already bought such a machine, it's a good idea to get it professionally tested".
In 2009 the Amazing Super Health, Vibro Trainer, was used for research purposes in the Australian Catholic University. The result of this research was a presentation that warned researchers that they must validate the frequency specification of their equipment prior to prescribing Whole Body Vibration. The researchers found that "The manufacturer notational speed of the vibration platforms did not reach the observed frequencies (Hz).
At a notational speed of 15, for example, the frequency of Vibro-Trainer 1 was 7.04 Hz. At 25, the frequency of Vibro-Trainer 2 was 12.42 Hz."… "The difference between manufacturer notational speed and observed frequency was significant".
This article is about false Whole Body Vibration product specifications.
False specifications are enemy No.1 for the Whole Body Vibration industry and consumers. As I have discovered over the years, false specs are not just limited to cheap home machines, they can be attached to very expensive commercial machines. They can be attached to machines sold by back yard operators, or attached to machines sold by big brands.
False specifications do more damage than you might think….
Consumers don’t get what they are paying for.
Users form a negative impression of Whole Body Vibration in general based on underpowered machines, i.e.
they don’t see results they were promised, and they walk away thinking that WBV is useless.
Users could be using their machine at settings which are unsafe or ineffective.
Researchers produce poor results and/or poor science.
Manufacturers are not necessarily misleading you on purpose, the scary fact is, and many of them are not informed enough about the product they are selling. Last year I had a phone call from a WBV supplier who introduced himself to me as "the largest supplier of vibration machines in Australia", and in the next sentence he asks "what is frequency?" The ugly truth is that by spending some time and reading through this website, you will quite possibly have more knowledge of Whole Body Vibration, than the many of the manufacturers themselves.
This year we submitted 18 different machines to an engineering firm in Brisbane who specialise in vibration analysis, to have each unit tested for maximum frequency, amplitude and acceleration.
